Noakhali, Bangladesh — 31 May

A passenger boat carrying 39 people capsized in the Meghna estuary shortly after midday today while travelling from the offshore Rohingya refugee camp of Bhasan Char to the mainland district of Noakhali.

Rescue teams have pulled 20 people from the water, but officials have not yet confirmed whether they are alive.

According to police, those on board included three local officers, four ANSAR personnel, two Rohingya patients with four relatives accompanying them, four crew members, and 22 other Bangladeshi passengers.

Search-and-rescue efforts are continuing into the evening. Further updates will follow as more information becomes available
